Now that she is six, I've introduced The Girl to a few proper movies, now that she has the patience to sit through them -- mostly the movies I grew up loving, from the 1930s and 40s. Today we watched 1938's The Adventures of Robin Hood.
As only a child can, she belly-laughed at the comedy, was charmed by the romance and thrilled to the action -- until at the climax, when Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone are fencing on the spiral stairs, she looked at me, horrified.
"Papa!," she said, "Those people should not be sword-fighting on the stairs like that -- there is no railing! They are being quite dangerous."
