One of my daughter's favourite spots

You can't see it from this angle, but the roots are an exposed tangle on the lake side as well, leaving sheltered pockets of water where my girl and her friends can look at tiny fish, and benches for them to sit and feed the ducks.

Here in SW Ontario, the grip of winter still holds fast. It's minus 11C, and there are flurries forecast on and off right into next week. You have no idea how soothing and relaxing that picture is. It's so easy to imagine sitting under that tree with a cool drink and and wonderful book, the sound of birds about, and the warmth of the sun trying to lull me into a nice afternoon nap...

I love the little places that kids can find and make magical to themselves. When my son was small, we had a spot like that by a local creek, where salmon fingerlings would swim against the current over the shallow rocks.
